Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, including active surveillance, biopsy, and prostatectomy.

Prostate cancer care

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Many prostate cancers grow slowly and can be safely monitored; others benefit from surgery or radiation. Choosing the right path depends on the grade and stage of the cancer, your overall health, and your priorities.

How Dr. Uhr can help

  • PSA evaluation, imaging, and prostate biopsy
  • Active surveillance for low-risk disease
  • Prostatectomy (surgical removal of the prostate)
  • Coordination with radiation and medical oncology through Jefferson Health

Life after prostate cancer treatment

Surgery and radiation can leave two side effects that are very treatable: erectile dysfunction, because the erectile nerves run right beside the prostate, and stress urinary incontinence, because the sphincter can be weakened. Dr. Uhr manages both — from penile rehabilitation and pelvic-floor therapy to penile implants, the artificial urinary sphincter and the male sling. See erectile dysfunction treatment and male stress urinary incontinence treatment.
