Kidney Cancer
Evaluation of kidney masses and robotic partial or radical nephrectomy, preserving as much healthy kidney as possible.
Kidney cancer care
Most kidney tumors today are found incidentally on a CT or ultrasound done for another reason, often before they cause symptoms. Many small kidney masses grow slowly; others need to be removed. Dr. Uhr reviews your imaging, discusses whether a biopsy is useful, and recommends a plan based on the size and location of the mass, your kidney function and your overall health.
How Dr. Uhr can help
- Imaging review and, when appropriate, renal mass biopsy
- Active surveillance for small, slow-growing masses
- Robotic partial nephrectomy — removing the tumor while preserving the rest of the kidney, through small incisions
- Radical nephrectomy — removal of the kidney when the tumor is large or centrally located
- Coordination with medical oncology through Jefferson Health for advanced disease
Minimally invasive robotic surgery means smaller incisions, less pain, a shorter hospital stay and a faster return to normal activity than open surgery, with the same cancer control.
